We’ve been fostering Billy for 3 weeks today and he has come on in leaps and bounds - literally! This morning he was doing zoomies round the lounge and bouncing up and down with excitement that it was morning again :) He is generally now very relaxed and happy in the house but still more nervous outside. We have kept to mainly the same route on his walks so that he knows where he is, and his tail only goes under his body if he sees someone he hasn’t met before. Even so, he can cope with people being nearer to him than when he first came to us. We’re going away later this week and can’t take him with us so he’s gone to a new foster family today. We’re really going to miss him but feel he’ll settle in quickly with a new family. Hope to see you soon Billy and that you find your forever home as you’re a lovely boy and deserve somewhere settled xxx

Hope, Snip and Rigsby would like to thank Billy for coming to stay for a while as they have been (finally) introduced to the wonderful tastiness of custard creams. They also want to know why their mum and dad haven’t provided them with this joy before this when they have lived with them for up to 9 years. Disgraceful owner behaviour :(

Billy continues to get braver. He is so excited to see us when we come downstairs in the morning but it’s just a bit too much to actually come out through the lounge door even though his whole back end is wagging. Once we go in to the lounge to him, he is full of love and cuddles. He’s slowly getting more relaxed out on walks but it’s a very slow process. He is starting to realise that medium sized dogs are ok to get near and sniff (cautiously) but little dogs……what on earth are they???!! And other humans may not be quite so frightening after all but he’s still not risking getting too close. Billy is one adorable dog xxx

So wonderful to hear. I know there is a loving playful boy just wanting to come out and be your friend. I have sat with him in his kennel and once he knows you he will give kisses and play. In the feeding run he had actually play bowed and chased people around. He is such a lovely special boy, with love and patience he will make a remarkable addition to a family home. Thanks to Rosie and Paul for taking him home to experience what a loving environment is and to show him that it is not at all scary being in a home!

Billy came to stay with us yesterday afternoon in the hopes that Hope, Snip and Rigsby can show him how lovely it is to live in a home and how to relax around people and other dogs. He settled more quickly than I expected, with him lying down with no panting within 2 hours. He is more relaxed with me than he is with Paul, but happier to go up to him when Paul is sitting down. Billy found some of the other dogs’ toys this afternoon and was playing with them which was lovely to see, and yesterday our nearly-12- year old girl Hope was flirting with him and they were play bowing together! So sweet!

Oh Billy boy. You were doing so much better when I saw you 2 weeks ago. I'll give you cuddles tomorrow and we'll see if you want to go for a nice walk. Hopefully we'll get your confidence up. Ideally though someone will fall in love with you and give you your forever home. x

Oh bless you Billy, it must be such a scary world for you but the lovely people at daybreaks will help you and you'll soon realise that life is wonderful. Good old custard creams...they were my jets favourite and when he was poorly its the only thing we could get him to eat, can't blame him really they are the best xxx

Billy has taken a few backward steps this week. :( He has been very reluctant to go for walks. Lucy took him out today. She said he was very worried about the workmen in the lane, he wouldn't walk any further and they came back to the kennels. He is still nervous of the heavy traffic on the Coventry Road. Alan is right, inside there is a happy playful Billy! Xxx When everyone had gone home tonight and it was quiet he was happy to come out of his kennel to go to the toilet. Sending him my cuddle tonight. Such a sweet boy. Xxx

Poor Billy can be a bit nervous and want to stay in his kennel and we had a bit of a job getting him to come out for his dinner today. In the end I had to gently pick him up and take him to the run. One thing that stands out is there is another Billy trying to come through and part of him wants to be friends. I think he would benefit from living with another more outgoing dog who could show him that the post racing world is nothing to be scared of. The lucky family that eventually adopts him and gains his trust with patience and care will have a very loving and loyal pet in return. Billy is a very special boy and he loves custard cream biscuits xx

The lovely Billy is such a nervy boy, he really doesn't like traffic and gets quite perturbed by it bless him. Initially very reluctant & wary, you can see he would quite like to approach you but really doesn't think he should!!

We just let him take things at his own pace, and he did start to relax a little, his tail untucked (is that a word??) and he accepted a fuss.

Time & patience is the key for this very handsome boy. x
