CORONA VIRUS INFORMATION AND PRECAUTIONS
Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that affect humans and animals’ respiratory systems.
There are no specific treatments for coronavirus infection, so preventing the virus is very important.
Symptoms to look out for include: Runny nose/ Headache/ Cough/ Sore throat/Fever/A general feeling of being unwell

WHAT TO DO:

Wash your hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
Maintain social distancing

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Please do not enter the kennels should you suspect you have the virus or have been unwell over the last 2 weeks.

Should you require assistance, please call the kennels and we can assist you with purchase of food or other requests.

We have gloves available for visitors and volunteers to use as a precaution and hand washing facilities and gel are available.

DEFRA Rehoming Update

Although there have been some changes to DEFRA guidelines relating to rescue centres i have decided not to resume our rehoming process just yet.

The new DEFRA guidelines only allow for ‘virtual’ rehoming which means that there are only online meetings between pet and owner prior to adoption and we feel that this does not allow us to fulfil our duty of care to our animals and their new families. There are also stringent procedures to adhere to at the point of adoption which we feel could be distressing to all involved.

One of our key principals to ensure long term success for each animal we rehome. For us to rehome a dog as successfully as possible we need to temperament test and assess all those that come into our care.

Also we feel most importantly that viewings take place at Daybreaks prior to adoption which allow the pet to bond with their potential adopter and vice versa.

With this in mind I do not feel we can effectively carry out a responsible rehoming service until we can safely host these meetings on site. As always the wellbeing of our myself, staff, volunteers and animals is my top priority.

We look forward to resuming our rehoming services as soon as practically possible.

I hope you understand my caution.

Obviously intake of emergencies is continuing.

Hi all, I just wanted to let you know that anyone having difficulty getting pet food in the Leamington area (and isn't able to get to the kennels) our local pet shop is well stocked and doing a brilliant job in supplying food. It is called Pets n Plants 01926 778188 and they have a website www.petnplants.co.uk. You can call and pay for items over the phone and then agree a time to pick them up from outside the store where there is parking. They are really helpful and sell big bags of dry food, plus all sorts of other things. My two particularly like the pigs ears...!
